The copy starts with product facts, not a keyword pile
Listsy gives the copy stage the locked product brief, final-file facts, actual buyer-package manifest, and seller direction. It also requires the listing-image set to pass QA before copy generation begins. Those gates define what the listing can honestly say.
The launch product is one transparent PNG inside a ZIP. The description should say that clearly near the top, explain the pixel dimensions and format, state that no physical item ships, and avoid naming formats that are not in the package.
- Name the item and its objective traits in plain language.
- State that the purchase is a digital download.
- List only the files the buyer actually receives.
- Keep important use and limitation details easy to scan.
The validator catches specific copy failures
A field can sound polished and still be false. Listsy checks the hard limits and compares format claims with the package manifest before the copy can move into the draft upload stage.
| Check | Current Listsy rule | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Title length | 140 characters or fewer | Fits Etsy's current title field limit |
| Tag count | No more than 13 | Fits Etsy's current tag count limit |
| Tag length | Each tag is 20 characters or fewer | Fits Etsy's current per-tag limit |
| Product type | Description says digital download | Reduces confusion about delivery |
| Shipping | No positive claim that a physical item ships | Matches the digital-only product |
| File formats | SVG, PDF, JPG, EPS, DXF, and similar claims require matching files | Prevents a format promise the package cannot fulfill |
| Editable files | No Canva, PSD, vector, layered, or editable claim | Those files are not part of the launch package |
| Bundle | Bundle language requires multiple buyer files | One PNG should not be sold as a bundle |
A valid title is not automatically a good title
Etsy allows up to 140 characters, but its April 2026 guidance recommends clear, readable titles and suggests using fewer than 15 words. Etsy says to name the item once, put the most important objective traits early, avoid repeated words, and remove price or sale language.
The current Listsy validator checks the character ceiling. It does not yet enforce the fewer-than-15-word recommendation, detect repeated title terms, validate tag characters, choose a category, or score the relevance of a phrase.
| Copy decision | Etsy guidance | Listsy boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Clear item noun and key objective traits near the start | Checks length, not search performance |
| Tags | Use up to 13 accurate, varied phrases buyers may search | Checks count and length, not volume or competition |
| Attributes | Add relevant category-specific details | Not selected by the current copy validator |
| Description | Use relevant language naturally and answer buyer questions | Checks file claims, not conversion or ranking |
Etsy search uses more than listing copy
Etsy describes two search phases: query matching and ranking. It looks across the title, tags, attributes, description, first photo, reviews, and more. Ranking also considers listing quality, engagement, shop quality, customer service, recency, and shopper context.
That is why Listsy does not call a generated tag high-volume or low-competition. Google Trends data describes Google search interest, not Etsy marketplace volume. A copy field can be relevant and readable without carrying a ranking guarantee.
Review disclosure, relevance, and voice before upload
Etsy permits seller-prompted AI creations and requires disclosure in the listing description when AI was used to create the item. That disclosure concerns how the product was created. The cited policy does not say that AI assistance used only to draft listing copy triggers the same product disclosure.
Listsy's current rule-based checks do not confirm that the required disclosure is present. Add it yourself when the artwork was created with AI, and edit the rest of the copy until it sounds like your shop rather than a generic catalog entry.
- Read the title aloud and remove repeated or subjective filler.
- Check each tag for relevance, allowed characters, and a distinct purpose.
- Confirm category, attributes, price, and quantity inside Etsy.
- Add and review the AI disclosure when the product creation requires it.
- Make sure the first description sentence tells the buyer exactly what is sold.
